Engine and transmission mounted. New parts in!

Posted on April 09, 2010 in Build by Alex

I haven’t even had the time to breathe at night and update the blog. We have been working every night to try and get all the things done that we need to catch up on and have the car ready within the next month. The shakedown is shooting to be at the beginning or middle of May and get to do some practice before signing up for the first pro-am event.

Well onto the list of things that we were able to purchase and lastly, which drivetrain setup we are totally settled on: LS1 Turbo!!!!!!!!!!! We acquired the engine, trans, harness, individual throttle bodies, etc in trade for labor on a customers car. We planned on sticking to naturally aspirated but we ditched the throttle bodies because we love our turbo cars and I was able to buy most all the parts I need to finish the build. Here is what I was able to pick up: ACT Twin Plate clutch kit, Comp Cams dual row adjustable timing kit, Comp Cams Hi-RPM Valvetrain kit, Melling High Volume oil pump, ARP Rod bolts, and lastly the KPR Engineering gnarly steering angle kit. Special thanks out to Victor Moore and the crew at KPR Engineering for helping us out on our project with the angle kit.

The motor was solid mounted along with the transmission. The mounts ended up being slightly lighter than stock but sturdy as hell! Here are the pics:

Each week a little closer

Posted on March 28, 2010 in Uncategorized by Alex

Well its been almost 6 days since the last update and we have been hard at work. We get as much done as possible on customer projects from 8am-6pm and after that we are hard at work on the 350Z to get our giant list of things to do finished. Most days we will stay until at least 9 or 10pm and on sunday we will work a full 10-12 hours strictly on the 350Z.

The door handles are painted, hatch and hood are painted, outer pillar pieces installed, lexan rear hatch installed, inner door handles installed, wiper motor installed, DigiDash mounted and ready to be wired in, and 1 set of the MB Battles have been painted gold. There is still so much more to do but after seeing these pictures it just gives us so much motivation at the end of the day to continue working on the car and hit the track!

The paint scheme of the car actually came out amazing and it looks so agressive and its not even completely finished yet! Really loving the look of the hood along with the rest of the car. Leave us comments and let us know what you think.

Here are the pictures from this week’s update:

Motivating stance

Posted on March 23, 2010 in Build by Alex

Well the 350Z is on the ground with temporary suspension until my new KW spring rates come in this weekend. This is close to the stance that we want to get with the car hopefully. Very appealing and motivating at the same time!

Today we were able to install and mount the rear bumper in its final position, installed the Wilwood 6-piston front brakes and the 4-piston rear kit. We are debating whether to use the 350Z factory rear caliper to the hydraulic hand brake or use the Wilwood 4-piston as the hand brake.

Here are some HDR pictures courtesy of Joseph Todaro from www.JDMThreads.com:

350Z is painted!!! Huge progress at last…

Posted on March 21, 2010 in Build by Alex

As I updated on the forums yesterday I had promised an update for you on a huge step forward for the 350Z. We have been hard at work every day and night staying after hours to just get anything small done on the car. This past week we set the goal to have the car painted by the end of the weekend and it is! It turned out extremely well and we are pleased with how it looks. Now it gives us some more motivation to continue working on the car and have it ready to rock in less than 2 months. Also is the picture of the headlights I re-did with black insides instead of chrome.

The interior of the car is a metallic silver, the exterior is satin white, while the roof, hatch and part of the hood will be a satin black. Our MB Battles are going to be painted a metallic gold and I will update on that soon when we get a set of them painted. I have most all of our parts needed already ordered and just waiting for everything to come in so we can install the suspension components and get the car at its final stance.

Enough with the long post and onto the pictures!

240z Suspension Conversion Completed

Posted on January 02, 2010 in Uncategorized by Alex

As you guys know we have spent this entire week working on getting the new suspension subframe into the infamous 240Z. Well as of today at 4pm we finally have everything in its final mounting position with all the mock-up parts. Now all we need are the adjustable rear suspension links and also a front adjustable lower control arm. The coilovers shown in the following pictures are solely for mockup and we have a brand new set of KW Clubsports going in. This took my dad the entire week to complete the subframe swap, it was quite the labor intensive job!

Here are some pics:

Subframe cleaned up, painted and installed :)

SR240Z reconstruction, SR350Z continued

Posted on December 28, 2009 in Build, New Parts:) by Alex

Well we finally decided what we are going to do with the silver 240Z that we tore apart to do the motor mock-up for the 350Z. Full unlimited time attack car!!!!!!!!!! The current suspension setup it had was Ground-Control coilovers with Tokico Illumina shocks and camber plates up front. The brakes were Arizona Z Car 12.2″ Wilwood front/rear.

We came to the conclusion of ditching this setup and swapping in an S13 complete rear subframe so that we have more gear ratio selections as well as strong axles and a 5-lug setup. For the front we will be running S13 front knuckles and a set of KW Clubsport S13 coilovers thanks to Eddie at Dynamic Autosport. The new brakes are Megan Racing 6-piston 350mm front with 4-piston and 332mm rear.

The 350Z we have been waiting on our FRP body parts to get here so that we can do the front mock-up of the intercooler and radiator. We’re hoping to build a 2.2L stroker engine for this car now and throw the current motor back into the 240Z for time attack since it is setup for more high end rather than mid-range torque. Now on to the pictures of the subframe swap on the 240Z:

Well I have been working with my friend Joey on getting our blog together with a better layout and more fun to look at and we finally settled on this current theme. He runs www.JDMthreads.com and a bunch of other sites as well. He does tons of graphic design, custom T-shirts, photo shoots (cars and models) and tons of tech/marketing related promotions.

Check out his sites at www.JDMthreads.com , www.trifectafoto.com , and www.driftv.com

New wheels!

Posted on December 18, 2009 in New Parts:) by Alex

IMG_0402

Well after searching for used wheels all over the forums and trying to find the right sizes/offset I decided on getting the MB Battle 18×9.5 +15 offset directly from Discount Tire. I found an online coupon for $100 off per set of 4 wheels and I bought 2 complete sets at $648 each and free shipping!!!!!!! I ordered an extra set though for the Time Attack Silvia S15 (as spares) were building to compete in Redline Time Attack this coming year.

Finally a new update!

Posted on October 21, 2009 in Build by Alex

Alright followers: I am extremely sorry for the lack of updates. The shop hit a slump and we had to concentrate on doing strictly shop work and we were discourage from even touching the race car.

Weeks later we decided to get our KA24 510 tuned but ended up blowing the motor due to tuner error :/ We brought the car back, pulled the KA24 and swapped in an SR20det instead to stick to our roots. Here is a sample of what it came out to look like now:

We also just bought another set of XXR 002 wheels in 16×8 with 0 offset to use for the drift days at Adams on Thursday nights and also bought this little fun toy for the 510:

During the install of the SR20 we bought some new brakes for the 350z track car (Wilwood 6-piston front and 4-piston rear), new front windshield installed, as well as painting the roof portion of the car satin black.
